Reminders From the Engineering Department
- Sump Pumps: Residents using sump pumps must properly direct discharge pipes. Older gutter-discharging lines are grandfathered, and new construction street discharge is prohibited; however, any line causing hazardous street flooding or icing must be relocated.
- Tree Removal: Under state-mandated Ordinance 2024-16, tree removal requires a permit and may require replacement plantings. Visit the Township website or contact Engineering for details.
- Fill Dirt: Importing fill dirt requires a free Soil Import Permit to certify it is clean. Avoid unverified "free fill" from social media, as costly required testing may fail safety standards.
- Fences: Standard 6-foot residential fences do not need permits but cannot be built in easements or rights-of-way. Commercial fences always require Planning & Zoning approval.
- Stormwater Facilities: Businesses and HOAs must maintain their private stormwater systems to prevent flooding and submit an annual certification report to the Engineering Department.
