New Jersey and the Revolutionary War by Alfred Hoyt Bill, 1964.

This volume of The New Jersey Historical Series of books published in 1964 for the state’s 300th anniversary contains a survey of the major military developments of the Revolutionary War in New Jersey and covers the socio-economic effects of the war on the state. It describes the problems of war in depth including victory and defeat; Jerseymen defecting to the British; problems recruiting soldiers; discipline issues with the troops; as well as the outbreak of disease and an epidemic of smallpox. Readers are introduced to key figures responsible for winning the war and forming our country such as George Washington, General Hugh Mercer, Thomas Paine, Alexander Hamilton, James Monroe, and Thomas Marshall. The colorful character of Benedict Arnold as well as British officers William Howe, Lord Cornwallis, and Johann Rall are also presented. This is a great book for students and history buffs.
