Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a national observance to honor survivors and victims. Domestic violence is a widespread issue, impacting over one in three women, about one in four men, and over half of transgender and nonbinary individuals in their lifetimes. The local resource, Safe+Sound Somerset, supports healing from this trauma through compassionate, evidence-based practices. Their comprehensive services include a 24-hour crisis helpline, emergency safe housing, legal advocacy, and individual/group counseling for adults and children, along with specialized crisis response teams. The Hillsborough Police Department takes all domestic violence calls seriously, works closely with Safe+Sound Somerset, and ensures that victims receive immediate resources and information to connect directly with the organization for support.
