Measles Advisory
Measles is a highly contagious virus that can cause serious health complications, especially in children younger than 5 years old.
The NJ Dept. of Health is urging residents to make sure their routine and travel vaccinations are up to date, especially the MMR vaccination for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella. If traveling with an infant aged 6 to 11 months, it is recommended to check with a pediatrician about getting an MMR prior to travel.
Although there are no measles outbreaks in NJ, sporadic cases have occurred, and the NJDOH has reported non- NJ residents with measles traveling through NJ on mass transportation and potentially exposing residents. These incidents are reported on the NJ Dept. of Health Communicable Disease website which is updated every Friday.
