Hillsborough Township Announces NJ Local Government Week Events

Activities Include a Meet and Greet and Trivia Contest

Hillsborough Township is joining municipalities throughout the state in celebrating NJ Local Government Week, April 6th through 12th.

Because local government is the closest government to most citizens and the one with the most direct daily impact on its residents, residents should take time to understand how their local government operates, the services it provides, and the importance of their active involvement.

“NJ Local Government Week is an opportunity to engage with our residents so they’re well-informed about the many services we provide. It’s important for them to know that we are here to help them,” said Mayor John Ciccarelli at the March 25th Township Committee meeting.

Not to be outdone by last year's scavenger hunt, Hillsborough is hosting a meet and greet before the April 8th Township Committee meeting, where local students can ask Mayor Ciccarelli questions and take pictures. The students are also invited to attend the Township Committee meeting immediately following to see their local government in action.

“It's an honor for students to be invited to the Local Government Week activities. Seeing our students actively participate and learn about the functions of local government is incredibly rewarding,” said Superintendent Michael Volpe. “I'm excited to see the impact these experiences will have on their understanding of civic responsibility and community engagement.”

Additionally, the Township is hosting an online trivia contest that is open to all residents. The questions will relate to the local government, its departments, and Hillsborough’s rich history. Residents will be able to compete for “bragging rights” to see who knows the most about Hillsborough Township.

Hillsborough has also partnered with Hillsborough Clean Communities to produce a magnet listing all Hillsborough Township departments with their phone numbers to give out at the Municipal Building during Local Government Week. Magnets will be available at the front counter of each department beginning April 7th.

Sponsored by the NJ League of Municipalities, NJ Local Government Week is a week-long celebration that raises awareness about the importance of municipal government and its daily impact on residents.
