Hillsborough Township Announces New Web Address
Benefits of a .gov address abound
“Hillsborough Township has a new web address,” announced Mayor John Ciccarelli at the January 14th Township Committee meeting.
“By changing to a ‘.gov’ address, we are adding trust and legitimacy to our online presence,” the Mayor added as he explained that a .gov domain helps people to easily identify the Township website as an official government entity. Residents can be sure they’re receiving information from or registering for services from an official source.
The new domain also comes with heightened security features, including mandatory encryption (HTTPS), two-factor authentication for administrators, and regular security assessments. These measures significantly lower the risk of phishing attacks and unauthorized access, protecting both the government entity and its constituents. Adopting a .GOV domain aligns state and local government organizations with federal cybersecurity best practices, demonstrating a commitment to safeguarding citizens' data and maintaining the integrity of government services.
Having a .gov domain is also a more cost-effective solution, as government organizations can register .gov domains at no cost, compared to other TLDs that may incur annual fees.
The new domain is already in effect and we acknowledge the hard work of the Information Technology Department and all staff for this seamless transition.
